Colsanitas opens new clinic in Barranquilla
Colsanitas Clinic opens the El Carmen Clinic in Barranquilla with 18 new ICUs and 35 general hospital beds
The facility also has 35 general hospital beds, a 24-hour surgery room and CT, X-ray and ultrasound services.
- - Since July 16, the El Carmen Clinic in the city of Barranquilla began operating. It will initially operate as an extension of the Iberoamerican Clinic and other District facilities.
- - The facility, which is a remodeling of the old Bautista Clinic, has 18 ICU beds, 35 general hospital beds, a 24-hour surgery room and CT, X-ray and ultrasound services.
- - The Iberoamerica Clinic is part of the medical institutions that make up the Colsanitas Clinic nationwide. To which the Reina Sofía Clinic, the Colombia University Clinic, the Sebastián de Belalcázar Clinic, among others, also belong.
Barranquilla, July 18, 2020. As a contribution to the medical services of Barranquilla, the Colsanitas Clinic, through the Iberoamerica Clinic, inaugurated the El Carmen Clinic on Thursday, July 16. The new facility will support the hospitalization and ICU services of both the Iberoamerica Clinic and other medical facilities in the District.
The El Carmen Clinic opens in the remodeled facilities of the Bautista Clinic. This new building compound will have, among other things, 18 beds of Critical Care Unit, 35 beds for general adult hospitalization, a 24-hour surgery room, clinical and imaging laboratories.
As part of the preparatory actions for the opening of the El Carmen Clinic, the Iberoamerican Clinic carried out a rigorous process of hiring professionals, including doctors, healthcare personnel and administrative collaborators. Thus, making an important contribution to the generation of qualified employment in the Caribbean region creating 176 direct jobs.
The Medical Director of this new institution is Dr. Jaime Villa, while the scientific direction is in charge of Dr. Roberto Tarud, who is currently also the Scientific Director of the Iberoamerica Clinic. The entire process of remodeling, adaptation and putting into operation of this new clinic has been accompanied by the Barranquilla Health Department and the city hall.
Within the preparatory actions for the opening of the El Carmen Clinic, the Iberoamerican Clinic carried out a rigorous hiring process of over 170 professionals, including doctors, healthcare personnel and administrative collaborators. Thus making an important contribution to the generation of qualified employment in the Caribbean region.
With this, Colsanitas Clinics reaches 44 critical care unit beds in the city of Barranquilla and 196 in the country. Thus, having a growth of 265% so far this year. A fact that would not have been possible without the planning carried out by the company since February, when it articulated a multidisciplinary working group to prepare its institutions for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Colsanitas Clinic is the company of the Keralty Business Group in charge of the medical infrastructure that serves Sanitas EPS users and Medicina Prepagada Colsanitas (Medicina Prepagada is a more comprehensive health insurance offered to the general public apart from the mandatory Social Security programs in place by the government of Colombia, by its definition in Spanish). It is in charge of the Reina Sofía Clinic, Colombia University Clinic, Colsanitas Pediatric Clinic and Santa María del Lago Clinic, in Bogota; Sebastián de Belalcázar Clinic, in Cali; Iberoamerican Clinic and now El Carmen Clinic, in Barranquilla.
